Louis Vuitton Spring ’12 mens collection is all about safari-ready details and reinvigorating the brand’s signature check with vibrant colors inspired by the Maasai.
For Spring 2012, he showed suits with the pants rolled up, varsity jackets, zigzag knit sweaters, and even a tux paired with shorts. The color palette contained mostly neutrals such as khaki, navy, brown, grey, and cream. But there was also a red and royal blue Masai-inspired grouping of plaid and Damier check items from scarves to short sleeved shirts.
This season, designer Kim Jones takes the helm at the house and pulls from a very Peter Beard-ian world, designing for that man who could be hanging in the south of France with the Stones one week and then with a Masai tribesman another. Either way, he’s dressed.
New Men’s Style Director, Kim Jones, recently told the International Herald Tribune that he looked toward the continent for artistic cues:
“Growing up in Africa, living with little lizards, snakes and elephants or being chased by baboons — it never really goes away,” said Mr. Jones, 32, referring to family life in the wild with his hydrogeologist father.
